The landscape is peppered with promises of convenience. Answers to every challenge are just a phone call away. This study of 1-800 number billboard advertising takes those promises further, for better or for worse. Scaled down mini billboards are composed of an aluminum frame holding a scored plywood substrate. Scoring gives the impression through the wheat-pasted paper of the grids that many billboards used to put up the component ‘sheets’ of their images. The paper itself is wrinkled through the act of pasting – just like old billboards – and destined to weather and age.
